Valid Win32 Applications

When trying to install a program from CD, I get an error message:
D:\setup.exe is not a valid Win32 application
How can I get around this?
Also, how do I determine if I have a valid win32 system?

Thanks, Jon, for a prompt and "unwordy" response! There is no way to bypass
the bad setup.exe file?

If it's a commercial CD, then would be difficult. If it's freeware that you
can download again, then try redownloading it.

You could try copying the file / cd contents to a temporary folder on your
harddrive, and try clicking the setup.exe file again. But if the CD / file
is genuinely corrupted, then chances are you will get the same error
message.

Thanks again, Jon. It is commercial software but purchased on eBay. I will
try the copy-to-temp suggestion. If that doesn't work, I'll inform the
company that produced it or track the eBay salesman.

I have been having the same problem ever since I ran the last set of updates,
and downloaded some of the new XP software and programs. Nothing I have
tried has fixed this problem.

I am getting the same win32 message when I have attempted to install several
downloaded and CD programs. Nothing I have tried has solved the problem.

If it's a recent thing, following a set of updates, then, if you have
System Restore activated, you could try restoring to a point prior to the
problem. Each update tends to set a restore point, so you could also use
System Restore to identify which updates you have recently installed.

Otherwise, you could take a look at your windows update installation
history, eg via the Windows Update site, and remove the recent updates that
may have caused a problem, (eg via Add / Remove Programs).

I have received that same error even when downloading Microsoft
programs, couldn't understand why. What I was doing,I would save to download
file then open,Now if I receive this error I don't save to download file
just run from download, don't ask me why it works ,all I know it works for
me,I only do this if it is a trusted file.--
