D:\ is not accessible

Hey everyone,

I just tried to copy some files to a CD and a window popped up saying "D:\
is not accessible. Incorrect Function."

Now, I know that I've copied files onto CDs before. However, a few months
back I did download the big Microsoft windows patch (sp2, I think). I can't
remember if I have copied any files since then.

I also noticed a discussion earlier where they talked about Roxio and Nero.
I search for both of them. I didn't find anything with Nero. I found a couple
of reference to Roxio. Two of the file had the AOL symbol on them and the
other had an Explorer symbol. They all seemed to be internet pages. They all
had the same name of "NRoxio.htm"

Does anybody know how I can get my computer to copy to CDs again.

Thanks for any help,
Mark

If you have either Roxio's or Nero's burning software, you should check
their sites for the latest updates for your application.

Dan,

I was just using whatever must have come with XP. I've never added a special
burning software as far as I know.

Right click the burner in Windows Explorer, select properties, go to the
Recording tab, if there is not check next to "Enable CD recording on this
drive," place one there, click apply and ok and try again. You may need to
reboot first.

Michael,

Thanks for the advice, but I must be an idiot because I can't find the
burner in Windows Explorer. In fact, I'm not even sure I can find Explorer. I
looked in the Windows file and didn't see Explorer. I saw the internet
browser file but not a separate file for Explorer.

So I did a search and found the Windows\Explorer and found an explorer file
in Windows and one in Windows\System32. But when I opened them, it took me to
My Documents. In there, I could only find something called RecordNow! I
didn't find a burn file. I checked the RecordNow! but it didn't have a record
tab.

After that I did a search for burn in the C drive, and found a number of
files. But none of them were in Windows. A CD burning file was in
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIGURATION . . . but when I opened that file, nothing
was there. (I should mention that I recentedly had a hijacker get into my
computer and as a result I think some of my System32 files were deleted since
that's where some of the hijacker was hidden.)

Anyway, as far as I can tell, I don't have a Burn icon or file.

Any advice?

Thanks,
Mark

OK, it won't say burner, that's just a colloquialism for CD-RW and you might
simply have to look for the drive letter since it's often designated simply
as CD Drive. Windows Explorer is usually located as follows, Start, select
All Programs, select Accessories and then select Windows Explorer.

If you cannot find the proper drive there, try My Computer which is also on
the Start menu, then find the drive or drive letter that corresponds to your
CD-RW drive, right click the drive, select properties, go to the Recording
tab, place a check next to "Enable CD recording on this drive" and press
apply and ok.

If you cannot figure out which drive, right click them all until you find
the one with the Recording tab as the tab should only appear on the drive
that corresponds to your CD-RW drive.

Hi there folks,

I have been experiencing the same problem that Mark described with my CD-ROM
drive (D:) and other devices. The error message is - "D:/ not accessible.
Incorrect Function". It also happens on my CD-RW drive (E:) and on my USB
memory sticks (G:). All of these did work, and I agree with Mark that this
all seem to have started after I installed XP/SP2. I can still play music
CD's, but can not read data CD's (i.e.,I can't load new programs, etc). For
the CD-RW drive (E:) the "Enable CD recording" box is checked . Any help
would be appreciatred.
