D:\ is not accesible

using XP, recently switched to a DVD-R drive.
When I try to copy to D:\ message comes up a not
accessible. There is no recording tab in the properties
either. I've read people's similar problems but haven't
seen anything that will fix mine. Now I can burn CDs
using roxio but I want to be able to use WMP9 which
cannot find a device. Any ideas welcome

XP cannot burn to DVD by itself, you have to use your third party software.
