D: & E: optical drives

i am having problem. when i insert a cd or dvd in drive D or E and go to my
computer and click on the appropriate drive, it tells me that is not
accesible. does anyone know how to fix this. also when i go to itunes it
tells me that "the registry settings used for burning CDs and DVDs are
missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning
software. Please reinstall iTunes." when i reinstall it i get the same error
message. i installed spybot search and destroy and i think that is what
screwed up my computer. i uninstalled it but now i am stuck with all these
problems. does anyone have any idea how to fix this. i tried system restore
but ran into the same problems.

Check properties on the drives in Device Manger (Control Panel / System).

thanks for the reply...i tried both. it won't allow me to delete when i go
through the microsoft link..and i tried the winzip download but still no
luck...any other advice??? thanks for your help

Does Device Manger show one of these error codes? Which one? Were you
logged in to XP as an administrator when you tried the fix?

i was logged in as an administrator but it does not show any of those codes.
when i try to delete that code, it say cannot delete...error deleting
key...any advice? thanks again

If those codes aren't shown, then you have a different problem. What does
device manager show for the 2 optical drives? Does it say they are
functioning correctly?

You might try deleting the devices in Device Manger and rebooting - Windows
