"Cyclic Redundancy Check" - what the hell???

HI I am very puzzled by this error message I recieve when I am copying files from a CD to my computer. it will stop the CD halfway and then I get "cyclic redundancy check" any clues on what this is???

CRC error usually means the disk is corrupt, if you get it with other
disks your drive might be failing. Try the disk in another drive / PC

That error indicates CD is not readable. Probably just dirty, etc.
Clean with CD cleaning kit and/or warm water. If badly scratched, try
CD repair & then try to copy files.
