cutting or copying in word

R

I sometimes have to cut and paste/copy and paste a large
portion of text from a lond Word document. What I would
normally do to cut or paste is to left click on the
mouse, move the cursor down to highlight the requisite
bit of text, then click on "cut" or "copy".

The problems begins if that portion of text goes over a
page, or worse still two or three pages. Then as I move
the cursor down the bottom of the screen, the document
runs away with me and there's no way I can stop it at the
right point.

If the portion of text is only running over a couple of
pages, I can use the "zoom" control so that I am only
seeing the document at 50%, which means I get more of the
document on my screen and then I can cut or copy. But if
I'm trying to cut or copy any more pages than this, the
document always runs away with me.

Any ideas?

Roger,

Rather than dragging the mouse for you selection, put the cursor at the
start of the piece you want to Copy, hold the Shift key down, and use then
Page-Down key to select the document page by page. Once you are close, you
can then use the mouse so more precicely select the end point. (Keep the
Shift key down until you have the exact selection you need)

Cheers ;-)

Click at one end of the desired selection. Use the slider on the vertical
scroll bar to bring the other end in view, then Shift+click there.

In addition to what Suzanne and Chris said, you can use the Extend Selection
option.

1. Place your cursor at the beginning of the selection you want to select.
2. Locate the EXT option on the status bar at the bottom of your screen.
It is near REC, TRK, and OVR.
3. Double click on EXT with your mouse, which will change it from Gray text
to Black text.
4. Adjust your screen so you can click at the end of the selection you
would like to have selected.
5. Copy or Cut as you desire.
6. Double click on the EXT to turn that feature off.

Just goes to prove that there are AT LEAST three ways to do any thing using
a Microsoft product. <grin>

Just for fun, there's also the F8 option, in some circumstances.
Hit F8 two times to select a word.
Three times to select a sentence
Four times to select a paragraph
Five times to select a section (or the entire doc if no section breaks).
