cut/copy problem

Gott

In Windows Explorer under Windows XP if I select a large number of file to
move or copy then I get an error popup box titled "Error Copying File or
Folder" with the message "Cannot copy file: Cannot read from source file or
disk."

Is there anyway to work around this problem other than only selecting 10-100
files at a time which is virtually impossible with a list of 10,000 files?

One or more of the files is/are probably in use. If any of the files are
..avi files, then that is a real common problem.

If the problem seems to be with avi files...

Avi files have a bug in XP. XP thinks that it has to read through every avi
file every time that you open a folder that contains any. You also get the
locked file in use when trying to delete, rename, move, etc. avi files.

See this on the fix.

The only down side to the above fix is that when you right click an avi file
and select Properties, the Summary page will be blank or grayed out.

Try from Command Prompt [Start-Run-cmd] :
copy "X:\XXX\XXX\*.*" "Y:\YYY\YYY\"

Note: Before doing this, make the destination folder.

LOL I wonder how the heck I managed that.

Thanks, Ayush.

It's because you have no idea what the site you're actually going to is. It
could be a site that contains malicious html.

It's for that reason that whenever I post a tinyurl, I try to remember to
also post the full URL. That gives people the choice of trusting me that I'm
not posting anything malicious, or piecing together the broken wrapping of a
long URL.

What Ken said. I never post tinyurls myself. Well, I haven't for an
awful long time.

I'd rather use something like this
