I am trying to set up a set of instructions for staff the follow. How can you
cut out either an icon or extract from word and paste in to your document.

thanks

Hi Monty-

If I interpret your intent correctly, your best bet (IMHO) is to use a
screen capture program, such as SnagIt. There are numerous others available.

Cut-and-paste in Word documents, along with Office documents, is pretty
simple and straight forward. Using the cursor left click and "select"
(i.e., highlight) the text to be copied or cut. Right click and decide
whether you want to copy the selected text or cut it from the document. Go
to the spot where you want ti paste the text. Right click and select Paste.
Bingo. Of course, if there are styles in the two documents, you may have
to use Paste Special (Edit, Paste Special) instead of just plain Paste so
that the pasted text matches the formatting at the insertion point. If you
are pasting from documents that are not in Microsoft Office, e.g., from the
web, you probably have to use Paste Special or you will have a formatting
nightmare. You probably also want to inform your users about using the
Clipboard, where they can store a bunch of text selections they previously
copied or cut and have them all ready for pasting. Without Clipboard, I
think you are pretty much limited to pasting the last bit of text you copied
or cut.

If you just want a button image, open Tools | Customize, right-click on the
desired button, and choose Copy Button Image. Close the Customize dialog and
paste the icon where you want it. For other screen shots, you can get a
rough capture by pressing PrintScreen (entire screen) or Alt+PrintScreen
(active window, which includes dialogs). For anything more sophisticated,
you will want a dedicated screen capture utility such as SnagIt
(www.techsmith.com).
