Cut and Paste in chat rooms

Using Internet Explorer I cannot cut and paste in chat rooms which use either
FlashChat or Java applet. I am using Windows XP Home.
Any suggestions please?

Other people in the chat rooms seem to be able to cut and paste so it would
seem to be a problem with my browser.
