Can someone tell me how to add a link to the "other places" menu in the
common tasks?

Don't know of any way to add an additional link. If you don't use the 'Shared Documents folder',
you can use TweakUI to point to another folder of your choice, and then that will show up under
'Other Places'.

Before telling you about TweakUi, I had tried it on my PC and it works fine.
Whats the problem? Download the TweakUi from the given link. Install it.
Click Start - All Programs - Powertoys for Windows XP - Tweak Ui - point to
Common Dialogs - Places Bar - click on Customize Places Bar - give your 5
favorite links here. E.g. My Documents - My Computer - Desktop - My Pictures
and one of your for your Folder like D:\Software. To check your settings,
Open Notepad and save the document and notice the custom places bar in left
side pane of Save window.

Further, it doesn't work for Microsoft Office.

Hope this information helps you, let us know!

I saw what you were talking about, but I think what he is trying to do (which
I'm trying to do as well). Is when you click on My Computer, you have the
list of "Other Places" that you can quickly go to. I think he and I are both
trying to modify that list.

He want's to customize the "Common Tasks" bar in Windows Explorer/My Computer. You are talking about the Places Bar that you see in dialogs such as Open/Save As, etc.

First of all, I am extremely sorry about the conclusion of "Places Bar" and
Common Task's "Other Places".

I did a lot of Google to come up with a right solution but maybe we can not
modify Common Tasks. However, I am using an Alternative tweak for the same.

Have you ever heard of "Link" toolbar? Found in Favorite menu of IE. Also in
Start - Favorite - Links. You can use this folder to add your favorite
program's and folder's shortcuts.

Click Start - Favorite - point to Links folder - right-click Open. Now place
your favorite shortcuts inside it. When you are finish, open My Computer.
Right-click on any toolbar above and make a check mark on "Links". Now, all
the shortcuts you have place in Links will appear here. Moreover, you can
place a link of "Links" toolbar on Taskbar as well. Right-click on Taskbar -
point to Toolbars - click on Links.

Hope this information helps you. Let us know!

I'd love to find the same thing. Seems to obvious! Hope MS can create
something so this can happen.
