I would like to show in the left pane of Explorer my choice of display
(Desktop, My Docs, C drive expanded and other items). Windows has set it own
display. How do I change it?

You need to go into Explorer Properties and go to the Shortcut tab and
change the Target to: %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e, c:\

Sorry, but my question was not how to open explorer on a personalized way on
the right pane (instead of : c:/my documents) but the left pane (where you
can switch with the map tree). On the left pane I find a part called "other
locations" (at least on my Dutch version). Here are links to other maps such
as : my computer, my documents, and so on. I would like to put in some of my
maps wich I frequently use, but I don't know how.

If you're referring to the Common Tasks pane, I'm sorry adding custom
locations to the left pane is not possible.
