Customized settings won't save from one session to the next

Since upgrading to a newer Dell PC (OptiPlex GX620; Windows XP) recently, I
find that I am unable to save customized changes that I make to the installed
software programs. The following are some examples: in Internet Explorer I
have to reset the text size from "medium" to "larger" every time I access the
Internet; in MS Word, when I customize the toolbars (both in normal.doc
and/or the specific file) the settings are not saved when I reboot/restart
the computer the next day. Also in Word I can't find macros that I saved
from a previous session; in Outlook I adjust the size of the window when
opening new e-mails do not be "maximized", and this will work throughout the
current session, but when shutting down & rebooting the following day the new
e-mail window reverts to "maximized" size.

With other Dell PC's that I have -- or have had -- the settings
automatically reappear each time I accessed the program. This has occurred
in all different versions of the Windows operating system.

This is frustrating as it causes me to waste time having to reset these
customized settings every time I access specific programs. Consequently any
assistance you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

I am having the same issue with the power settings. Even if you log in as
admin, a change in the power settings does not stay for all users. I have the
Dell Optiplex 620's as well. each time a user logs into these computers, I
have to go over there and show the user how to change the settings. It
appears the only way to correct the issue is to edit the registry, which is
something I do not want to do. Someone help us!!

This does occure when multi user seting are not enabled on your computer

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click Users.
3. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to configure the
Multi-user Settings.
Hope this helps

Read the general directions at the top of the page. Then scroll down to
line 30. On the left hand side is a link to a file that you can download
and run to fix the 'no save of settings.'
