I have a question regarding the XP pro activation and I was
wondering if any one knows how to contact the microsoft,
via email, for it.

Here is my question just in case there is some microsoft
personal reading it:

I have purchased a retail version of windows xp pro but
after purchasing it, I was told that I can get a free
version of windows XP from my school under some contract.
Now I was wondering if there is some way I can tranfer my
new key(free version) to my current machine configuration
so that I can install my retail software into my parent's
computer, using the old key.

thanx,

Hi,

No need to contact Microsoft by email.

Run a repair install on the existing setup using the key you received from
the school contract. You are then free to use your licensed retail version
on your parent's system, though you may need to phone in activation if it
has been less than 120 days since you initially activated it. Simply tell
them you you are moving the installation to a different machine.

Follow these steps to do a repair install which should preserve your data,
settings, and programs:

1. Insert the Windows XP CD into your computer's CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM
drive.
2. Restart your computer. If you have to, change the BIOS settings to start
from
the CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive, and then restart your computer again.
3. At the "Welcome to Setup" page, press ENTER.
4. Press F8 to accept the Licensing Agreement.
5. Use the arrow keys to select the installation of Windows XP that you want
to
repair, and then press R to start the automatic repair process.
6. When Setup is completed, activate Windows XP.
