custom animation on individual words

It there any way to set custom animation on individual words in a paragraph,
rather than just on whole bullet points or whole paragraphs? If Powerpoint
does not have this feature, is there an add-on that does?

If you want to animate individual words in a sentence/paragraph, the easiest
way is to create an additional textbox, then type the words you want to
animate.
Next, move the textbox on top of the words in that paragraph so that it
matches properly.
Then, you can add the animations you want.

I want the words to fly in individually between clicks when I am doing my
presentation. Does this mean that I would need to create a text box for each
word?

If it is just one particular word in a sentence/paragraph, you will need to
create an additional textbox.

If you want the paragraph to fly in words by words or letters by letter:

For PowerPoint 2002/XP and 2003,
Go to Custom Animation,
Add an effect. Right click on the effect, then click effect options.
Under Animate text, change "All at once" to "By word".

For PowerPoint 2000 and below, if i still remember, Go to custom animation,
then modify it under Introduce text.

To animate each words so that they fly in individually on every click, you
will need to create a textbox for each of them.

See if others have a better way to go about it.

After applying the animation to the text, do the following:
1. In the "Custom Animation" pane, select the dropdown box for the animation
that you want to have word-by-word.
2. Select "Effect Options..." menu item.
3. Select "By word" in "Animate text" box.
4. Set "100" % delay between words if you want the words to come one after
the other has settled down.
5. Click OK.

Now each bullet will animate on a click. Within each bullet, the words will
come one-after-other. Is this what you were looking for?
