Cursor Runs Amok

Just completed a Clean Install which was even less fun than
I expected. The most serious problem being my cursor running amok. It makes
everything difficult and sooner or later will cause another Clean Install.

My cursor is committing "drive by" atrocities without benefit of clicks. I
have set and reset the settings, shutdown, started and restarted many times
while working on other deficiencies.

I searched the forum and found others have had the same problem but no
solutions were found. My settings in Control Panel/Folder Options are:
Click item as follows: Double Click to open an item (single click to
select).

Has anyone solved this problem? Even this message has been difficult
because the cursor does not stay where I leave it.

Thanks for "listening".

Connect a simple mouse (PS/2 or USB) using a standard Microsoft driver
for testing purposes.

This setting sometimes helps

Control Panel > Mouse > Pointer options (tab) > Uncheck "Enhance Pointer
Precision"

Lookers-on see most of the game

I was more than a little surprised to hear the following from "BobW"

Detlev Dreyer,

Thanks for your response. I have had a keyboard on order for over a month
(I'm in the Philippines but not Manila).

The symptoms since the Clean Install are a different breed from the keyboard
problems and the setting change suggested by Jon seems to have done the trick.

Your recommendation remains valid as the keyboard is part of the problem.
Thanks again for responding to my plea for help.

Sorry for delay in my response as the keyboard problem makes signing-in very
difficult.

Thank You Jon!

It was wild. As you can see in my response to Detlev Dryer I actually had
at least two problems with insane symptoms.

I believe the change to the Mouse settings has cured the problems that
appeared after the Clean Install. I use an HP Notebook which has a Touch Pad
not a mouse (If that means anything).

Thanks Again Jon.

Ok, thanks for the feedback.

You're certainly welcome.
