I am sorry I did not give the full details, but I had an Outlook 6 I the
updated to the Outlook 7 and that is when this and other problems began, I
then uninstalled 7 but was left with 2 problems this one where the cursor
will suddenly move up a line or 2, it has done it 4 times while I have typed
out this short message, The other problem is that it will not let me respond
to Links in the inward messages.
The windows program is Windows XP ( make that 6 times now)

Aloha old,

I'm guessing that you're actually talking about Outlook Express which is
a very different program from Outlook.

This newsgroup is for support of Outlook 97, 98, 2000, 2002, 2003 & 2007
from the Office
family for PCs. For Outlook Express [OE] support try posting in one of these
newsgroups:
microsoft.public.inetexplorer.ie4.outlookexpress for OE 4.x
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie5.outlookexpress for OE 5.x
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie55.outlookexpress for OE 5.5x
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress for OE 6.x
microsoft.public.internet.mail.mac for the Macintosh version of OE

If those groups aren't carried on the news server that's carrying this group
try using msnews.microsoft.com. That's MS's public news server that's the
source
for all the microsoft.public newsgroups.

Also a good source of Outlook Express info can be found here:
http://www.tomsterdam.com

That said, does this ONLY happen in Outlook Express or does it happen to
you in other programs (like Word?) too?

I have XP Outlook (not Express) and I have the same problem--a cursor with a
mind of it's own; it's so frustrating. (3 times in this message it just
moves and typing appears wherever) HELP Also occurs in a Word Document.

I am having the same problem with Vista and Outlook 2007. Help!

The cursor also moves and highlights part of whatever window is open and I
can't unhighlight it all the time.

Diane Poremsky {MVP}

you either have speech enabled or are accidently hitting some key that
causes it to move - I do it occasionally on my laptop - I think my palm
brushes the touch pad but never pay attention to it until after I do it,
then I never do it again, so I can be sure. <g>

Hi Ben,
I am using Office 2003 and I have been experiencing this problem in Outlook
2003 when typing emails, and also in Word when typing documents. I am
keeping my fingers well away from the touchpad and I am sure there must be a
non-wetware problem here. I would be glad of your help - it is driving me
insane.
Thanks,
Miss G.

I have the same problem in Outlook 2007, and it's definitely not anything
else I'm accidentaly hitting -- I'm not moving my hands from the keyboard at
all. When I type quickly, the cursor sometimes just pops over to another
part of the text and types the characters there.

I think it's just a bug in Outlook 2007.

I have the erratic cursor after installing Office XP 2007. I don't make any
random moves nor accidently touch anything. I have run diagnostics twice
which say no problems exist. At this point, the cursor seems focused.
Outlook, or Office has some sort of connectivity problem with Windows Vista
maybe. I have the Premium version. Solutions?

I am having similar problems, curser will disappear up a page and start
typing text there, instead of where i was originally. I am not touching any
other keys, nor brushing touch pad, this is very annoying, especially when
typing important documents. Speech recognition is not active on my computer,
problem occurs in microsoft office word, word pad and note pad. I have a
vista home basic laptop. spoke to some people i know but, they have never
heard of this problem. I am at my wits end. Please help somebody.

ladycat

This is not an answer-it is Ditto to what 'andyman' wrote. I use XP on
another identical laptop and NEVER have this problem. The only difference--is
Vista. I also never had this problem before on any number of PCs I've used.
It is MADDENING and makes the whole system nearly useless. WHO'S GOT THE
ANSWER TO THIS PLEASE??

Since the statement was made that it happens in every application, it
isn't an Outlook problem, it is either a Vista problem, hardware problem
or a user problem.

I've got a user with the same problem, running Outlook 2007 on a network. We
do not have Vista, still with XP, so not a Vista thing. Could be a user
thing, she types very fast- but I'm noticing a laptop commonality? Is anyone
having this issue on a desktop computer, or is it a laptop issue? She just
had her laptop replaced, this didn't happen with the other model running the
same applications. It does also happen in other Office applications. I have
not heard of it happening to other users on our network, and very few use
laptops. Maybe it's a glitch that pops up when no mouse is used? I thought
no mouse affected the keyboard shortcuts somehow?

A frequent cause is someone accidentally tapping the touchpad with their
thumbs while typing.

We use Outlook 2007 and are having the same issue...after searching and
digging around we have isolated the problem to those that are using larger
fonts and screens therefore resolution. We have searched around the internet
for a fix and thought we had fixed it by ensuring the font was HTML format
but unfortunately it still does it with large fonts...only solution we found
was to decrease the font size.

Please see the post from further down of June 3/2009 which reads:

So solution for your people is turn the resolution higher and zoom to normal

I am running Vista Home Basic on a laptop with an MS optical mouse 3000 and
using Office 2007. I have watched the cursor jump forward and backward
through Word and Outlook, in documents and into menus, sometimes highlighting
and deleting text, and sometimes when my hands have been OFF the keyboard.
This has been a major problem through several updates and I am desperate for
a solution. Pls help.

If you're not touching the PC and this is happening, then you have a hardware
problem or software infection. Neither problem is an Outlook issue.
