Cursor Freezes - XP

I'm facing a new problem after getting rid of another just a few days ago.

I've a Compaq Presario 2100 US Notebook running Windows XP. Today, out of
blue, the cursor would not move after the start-up. It works fine untill the
machine boots up and freezes somewhere after that and when either of the
startup program starts. I've tried rebooting the machine quite a few times
and have also uninstalled any program that I recently installed. Have even
performed a "system restore" but no change.

Pleas help!

Check to see if you turned the mouse off..

a little button above the touch pad, perhaps?

A check - it is easy; quite often a result of the mouse (or whatever)
driver and the video driver arguing over which controls the pointer. It
is easy to check on - Control Panel - Display - Settings, Click
Advanced, and on the Troubleshoot page reduce the acceleration slider
one notch or two. If one does it, there is negligible loss of
performance: if two are needed look for updated video drivers from the
maker's site.
