I think i uninstalled some crap software which has subsequently ruined my
browsing functionality (and, i suppose, some of my other windows stuff).

the CTRL-F or menu option Edit / Find (On this page) does not work.

i am also experienceing the 'no links' problem from within Outlook Express
and the Open in new window problem.

I have tried all of the fixes mentioned previously in this newsgroup for the
last 2 but all to no avail. i have tried to repair and re-install IE6 but,
likewise, not much help.

any other ideas? any help greatly appreciated.

Hi philT :-)
:
What Windows verion are you running? What was the software that you said
ruined your browser functions? Did you run SpyBot Search & Destroy and
AdAware to be sure there were no lingering scumware on your sysem? It is
possible that
you may also have parasites, spyware, adware, malware, or hijackware on
your system causing the problem, which your antivirus will not detect, as it
does not have the same definitions. Download and install, then you *MUST*
update the programs prior to running to be sure they have the latest
definitions, then run the programs below. They are free and very effective.
Be sure to run both SpyBot and Adaware, as what one does not detect the
other may. It is important that you do all the steps and follow all
directions carefully:

You can go to the links below to check your system for parasites.
http://aumha.org/a/noads.htm
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/parasite.htm

Even if there is nothing that shows up on the sites above it does not mean
your system is clean, thus, follow the instructions and continue running the
programs below as instructed.

IMPORTANT:
Before trying to remove spyware, download a copy of LSPFIX from
the URL below - some malware may kill your internet connection when it is
removed, this program will enable you to regain your connection.
http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm

It is important that you run the programs in the order that they are listed
here. The first three programs will clear your machine of all other items so
that you can have a clear HiJackThis Log for the experts to read and analyze
for you. Even if you have run these programs, reboot and run them again in
Safe Mode, rebooting between each scan. Some types of malware can't be
cleaned or detected in Normal Mode.

Good work! This will help eliminate anything of that nature being the
culprit, and make it easier to troubleshoot. It may be that there are some
bits left in the Registry or elsewhere that will need to be removed. But,
we'll get the all clear on the bugs first. :-)

What was the exact name of the program, and where you downloaded or
installed it from. We may need some file reference information for the
clean up or pick your computer's teeth, or in case it's damaged a file that
will need to be replaced. If I have the name, I can do some checking on it
so we know what we're up against.

Thanks.

had a reply at the hijack this forum but the things they wanted me to remove
were mostly related to my work VPN set-up. found out that this problem also
happens in windows explorer and found the relevant articles in microsoft's
knowledgebase for using regsrv32 and a slew of dlls. ran these, added a few
registry entries and now it works fine. thanks for all help supplied.
