Ctrl+C on any file(s) in resource explorer crashes explorer

Hi there,

It's OK to right click the file(s) and select "copy", or select some text
from any editor and press Ctrl+C. I guess the the explorer doesn't handle the
Ctrl+C correctly in my case.

This is a newly installed windows XP pro machine. There's no funny software
on it at all.

Is it a known problem? Is there any fix for it? Thanks.

What is resource explorer? Is it a DOS program? Ctrl-C is a break command
that will cause many DOS programs to terminate.

Right click problems are generally do to a misbehaving right click
context menu handler. See this link:

Right click is fine to me in this case. In my machine right-click-copy is OK,
but Ctrl+C copy crashes the explorer.

Click Start, Run and type eventvwr.msc
Select Application entry in the left pane
In the right-pane, look for the Error entry denoted by a Red X

Sort by date and track-down the entry based on what time the error exactly
occurred. Locate and double-click the entry and you'll see more information
in the resulting dialog. Click the copy button at the top and copy the whole
event and paste it to a Notepad document and save it. Post the information
here.

Thanks for instruction.

The crash cause only one "Information" entry(not a warning or error) in
Event Viwer/Application:
Product: Windows Operating System
Source: Winlogon
Category: None
Event 1002
User: N/A
Symbolic Name: EVENT_SHELL_RESTART
Description:
The shell stopped unexpectedly and Explorer.exe was restarted.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp

Clicking the link doesnt help much. Basically the support center shows the
same information.

Jiaqi,

I believe a shell extension is causing this, and no useful info shown by the
event viewer. Isolate the problem by temporarily disabling the third-party
shell extensions using ShellExView.
