CTRL+ALT+DELETE to shutdown

P

Pat Willener

I recently had a fatal crash and had to reinstall Windows
XP from scratch. I remember that I had set up my old
system for CTRL+ALT+DELETE to bring up the shutdown panel.

After the re-install CTRL+ALT+DEL brings up the Task
Manager. I can't remember how to set up the system for
CTRL+ALT+DEL to launch the shutdown panel. I thought it
was TweakUI, but I can't find it in there.

Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Pat w.

Hi Pat,

Go to Start/Run and type in: control userpasswords
Change the way users log on or off....

Manual:

This setting controls which type of logon screen is shown, either the
classic Windows NT/2000 format or the Windows XP welcome screen.

Start/Run/Regedit

Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\
CurrentVersion\Winlogon]
Value Name: LogonType
Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)
Value Data: (0 = Classic Mode, 1 = Welcome Screen)

Create a new DWORD value, or modify the existing value, called 'LogonType'
and edit the value according to the settings above.

Hi Kelly,

Thanks for the details, especially the reg entry (as I do
not have a "Change the way..." tab.
