When I purchased this new Gateway I had to press CAD to boot. Somewhere in
this forum I saw how to eliminate that step. Recently I installed
pcAnywhere and now that step has returned. How do I bypass that to speed up
boot time.

Uninstall PCAnywhere.

PCAnywhere replaces some of the system login files. If you want to eliminate
the CAD requirement then you're going to have to get rid of PCA. Note that
if you're XP Pro, remote desktop does most of what PCA does without getting
into the issues related to replacing system login files.
