Ctrl-alt -del does not open task manager

Im running windows xp pro on a dell p4 w/256 mb of ram. Every time I press ctrl alt del to open the task manager it appears for a second and disappears sometimes it never appears.
 
You seem to have the common after results of various worms that have been
infecting recently. Do a up to date virus scan to find and remove. Jym
