Howdy,

I'm bored today so I decided to screw up my FP themes.

No, really, I'm experimenting with CSS sheets on a FP theme I don't use.
The sheets are named Color0/Color1, Graph0/Graph1, Custom, Themes (all with .css exts of course.

I believe the 0 & the 1 refer to standard colors as opposed to vivid colors?

I understand the Color and the Graph names, but where does the Custom come into play? Is that created if I make an FP change?

Same question for Theme.css.

Also I can't seem to figure out which pages are using which sheets...should that be visible in page styles? The meta name shows me only the theme the page is supposed to be using.

Sorry for newbieness on CSS...but that's why I'm trying to blow up this machine today! :)

here's the "dilly"
the whole point of a css file is that you could, except for the menu bars,
get rid of a theme with one.
I've never understood why so many style sheets with the fp themes but once
you get into the style sheets, www.bradsoft.com is a good system, you'll
probably never go back to themes again.
maybe not an answer but it's hard-learned advice. The worst thing I did
when I was learning fp 2002 with Jim Buyens' book was to gloss over his
"style sheet allusion" early in the book. I could have saved myself a lot
of time and energy learning that rather than getting caught up in the
themes. </IMO>

yah I have topstyle lite. it's good, but it's still trial and error for a newbie to see what is effecting what...if you know what I mean.

I guess the confusion (with me at least) is the cryptic names of FP's style sheet....can't the be called something more descriptive - more related to the theme? (rhetorical question).

Although I've almost abandoned the use of Themes (I still use them occassionally if I like the nav bar styles..but only for that)...it's still mystifying to me how the theme.css relates to the other style sheets...yah I know _themes.inf...still a little confusing.

I'm 96 hours into Sam's CSS in 24 hours! ... I'll figure it out someday!

there's a great book at www.sitepoint.com about html without tables. I'm
not into the table-less thing but it's the best .css book I've found.

Theme css files & what they are used for:
graph0.css - Normal Graphics Selections / Changes to theme (from .elm file)
graph1.css - Active Graphics Selections / Changes to theme (from .elm file)
color0.css - Normal Color Selections / Changes to theme (from .elm file)
color1.css - Active Color Selections / Changes to theme (from .elm file)
theme.css - Font Selections to theme
custom.css - Created only if you modify a theme, collects Changes to above & any new styles
themename1111.css - Created only if you Apply theme using css - combines All of above

All of above are automatically changed by FP if you modify your theme (& when you Recalc Hyperlinks) so your All your edits to these
css files will be lost (FP rereads the original theme .elm file).

Stefan,

COOL THAT"S WHAT I WANTED TO KNOW !! Can you see my tiny brain synapses (little sparks and lightbulbs) finally connecting from where you are? :)

Now it makes sense.
It now seems to me it'd be easier to start with CSS from scratch rather than reverse engineer this stuff for learning purposes.

THANKS !!

Robo
