Cross cable in Windows XP pro computers?

Hi I connected up 2 Win XP computer with a cross cable to the
network card. I am unable to see the comuter shares either way. The
XP firewall was disabled. Plse help. Thanks a lot!

Get a Ethernet hub or Ethernet switch and connect the PCs the proper way !

Hung, can the computer's see each other at all? Can you ping one from the
other?

Nonsense. What you suggest is a complete waste of money.When
you're dealing with only two computers, there is *no* difference
between using a crossover cable or a hub and regular cat5 cables.

There are many possibilities for what might be wrong in his case.
The use of crossover cables is *not* one of them.

What are the TCP/IP settings for these machines? They must be manually
configured since there is no DHCP server available to do it for you.

Suggested TCP/IP settings:
Computer 1
Use the following IP address
IP: 192.168.0.2
Mask: 255.255.255.0

Computer 2
IP: 192.168.0.3
Mask: 255.255.255.0

Ignore DNS for now.

In addition to the above information, are both computers in the same
workgroup? Have you created identical user accounts and passwords on
both computers? Have you shared out resources? Here are some links to

After changing the TCP/IP settings as Brad mentioned, please Ping the other
computer's IP address to see if it can be conntected. We need isolate the
root cause of the problem.
