Critical Updates

We have approx 20 XP PC's on-site. Users setup with
either "standard" or "restricted" privileges. As
Administrator I have configured Automatic Update
to "Download the updates automatically and notify me when
they are ready to be installed" on each of the PC's
assuming that this would work, irrelevant of the current
user logged on. Does not appear to be working. At present
I have to logon to each PC manually with Admin privoleges
and download updates. Be grateful if anyone could
enlighten me. (No facility for sms/sus updates)

Regards SB

In a standalone environment that is (almost) as good as it gets.
The updates should download (assuming the user accounts do
have rights to get out to the internet), but they will not install.

To have these install without intervention of an admin logging in
you should deploy a Sus server (requires Windows server version
running IIS), and then you can configure the machines to download
approved updates and install them whether user wants them or not,
and without having to log in as admin at the machines.

I should have reiterated, you only need Windows server with IIS,
you do not have to have this configured as domain environment.
