Help-cannot download critical updates!

I am getting critical security updates but when I get to Microsoft and "scan for update" appears, the end result is " no new updates"for your computer, despite the fact that I have just been e-mailed! Then
Having decided it is better to be safe than sorry I have tried to download the critical updates anyway. After downloading right at the end it says they have not been down loaded with the message cannot update due to no win.ex facility (Dead right no win!
Please can someone advise or help. Thanks Val.

Hi ... Microsoft never send emails to inform people to
update there windows ... If you get a email that its
telling you to upadte your windows and it look like
its from microsoft, its not from them .... NEVER
listem to any email that tells you to update its a fake
and it could be someone trying to either give you
a virus or find some info on your system ... And if still
don't believe me ... I would then suggest to you to make
a phone call to microsoft and ask them

And if you clicked on the link in the email you probably
just put a virus or spyware on your computer. Better run
an update antivirus scan and a spyware scan.
