Creitical Updates page - Recent

Whenever I see a change that is unexpected on the Critical Updates page, I
usually post a question and ask what I should do.
Tonight my husband tried to download Critical Updates and when he got to
that download page, he saw a lot of instructions about downloading new update
software about Windows Genuine Advantage Tool KB892130. He didn't bother to
post a question on this forum and decided to go ahead with the download.
However, after the downloads, the installationa bar got about 1/5 of the way
across and just stopped there for quite a long time. Nothing happened, so he
decided to click on Cancel. The box remained open just stating Cancelling and
nothing happened. He finally had to ctrl/alt/del to close it.
Now what do we do? Is our PC injured now? Please try to help and advise us
what to do. Thank you

There is probably nothing injured in your computer.
Reboot, turn off all unnecessary programs such as anti virus, spyware
killers, download accelerators etc. and try again.
Reboot when finished whether requested or not.
Most likely something else running caused a conflict and caused the problem.

Wow, what a relief. We kept trying before to get the program to install. We
kept clicking on the "Download and instal now" and kept getting the message:
"Updates were unable to be successfully installed." And then, the following:
"The following updates were not installed - Windows genuine advantage
validation tool (kb892130)." We didn't know what to do and as senior
citizens, we were really getting worried about the computer not being usable
on the web. We closed down the computer and before we went to bed we thought
we would check for a possible answer to our question. Your kind message was
waiting. We disabled Norton AV and Firewall, and when we got to the screen
that stated: "Download and install now" it went right into the install
process and it was finished in a few seconds (with our dial-up).
We have always downloaded the Critical Updates with no problems in the paste
while our Norton AV and Firewall were enabled. We wonder why now the download
worked, but the install did not work.
I believe you helped us in the past with one of our questions. Thank you
very much for you help.
