Creative Soundblaster crackles and hisses

No matter what I do, even replace the sound card, my
Creative Soundblaster PCI16 crackles and hisses when
played through any software like WMP or WinAmp. If I run
the CD-ROM direct as a CD player to my sound card, it
sounds great! So, this tells me that the speakers are OK.
I think it's an AMD/XP interface problem, but I am not
sure. 512MB RAM, AMD 1700+ with brand new HD, WinXP home,
new drivers, etc. Any ideas?

Youve totally disabled the on-board sound system,usually
AC97,chk with devicemgr under sounds,also disable in
the BIOS.With creative and nvidia cards,one way to use
them is before installing any drivers or software,go
straight to windows update and let it install the comp-
act version,usually 20 or so mb.Windows wont install
however if you already have,try delete in add/remove,
then uninstall in device mgr,shutdown computer.
