Creation of unauthorized admin account

Hello!
My mom just bought a new HP scanner and installed it a day ago. This
morning, there was a message on her computer saying something about HP and
she noticed there was no task bar at the bottom of the computer to close.
When she went to hit control + alt + delete, a message popped up saying that
the task manager had been disabled by the Administrator. When she restarted
the computer, she noticed a new account had been created saying something
-net. There are 4 accounts on that computer, my mom, dad, sister and
brother. My sister's laptop is on the same high speed connection that the
desktop is on. My mom said she deleted the account but when she restarts,
the message about the scanner will not go away and sits in the background.
How do I fix this??

Probably nothing to do with the scanner, but to do with Automatic Updates.
The .NET update has created a new User account. How did your mom "delete"
the account?

Her account is also an administrator account! So I don't know why she can't
enable the task manager. I found a link in the forum when I searched for
"task manager" to go to and see if I can fix it. I don't know the cause of
this account being created or why the task manager could be disabled??

I don't know the cause of this account being created

I told you - it was created by the automatic updating system installing
..NET framework - that's the major problem with enabling automatic updates
- you get all sorts of stuff you don't need.
or why the task manager could be disabled??

Now THAT could be caused by a virus or malware. have you got all the usual
apps and updated them and scanned?
(AV, Spybot etc etc)

If you use System Restore to set the machine back to the day before
yesterday, then, God willing, the system would be restored to its position
prior to the installation. Then you could both try installing again, watching
carefully as any input is required from you during installation.

If you try this, please report back to us.

Possibly, but there was nothing wrong until the installation took place. In
any event, if a successful System Restore was put in place, Shanna can always
switch off System Restore (AFTER the restoration) and then switch it back on
immediately. This should ensure that any malware in the system would not be
carried forward by reason of the restoration. That's just my opinion, of
course ....

Excuse me Shanna for appearing to talk as if you weren't there! Good luck
with whatever you do.

The link I had found worked! You have to get into your HKCU and enable your
task manager. I thought about the system restore, but this was much easier!
I walked my dad through it on the phone. Awesome! Thanks!
