Creating Rules

I'm running outlook 2002 and just tried to set up rules for the 1st time.
When I set-up a rule to direct email from a specific email address to a
specific folder, I get an error stating "One or more rules could not be
uploaded to Exchange server and have been deactivated. This could be because
some parameters are not supported or there is insufficient space to store all
of your rules."

Does anyone know of a solution? Thanks

Are you connecting to an Exchange server?

An Exchange 2003 or earlier mailbox can hold at most 32K characters for
rules. Depending on the rule complexity, that can be anywhere from 20 to
200 (or thereabouts) rules. The size of the space cannot be modified. Your
only choice is to simplify, combine, or eliminate rules. Exchange 2007
allows 64K or 256K (admin option) rule characters per mailbox.

Now, what you describe doesn't sound as though you have very many (if any)
rules defined, so try starting Outlook once with the /cleanrules command
switch and try again. This should clean out any rules that exist in the
mailbox and allow you to start fresh.
