I just installed Windows XP but by mistake I only made one partition -
C. Can I create another partition without reinstalling Windows? Do I
need extra software or can I do it with Windows?
Thanks

You need a partition manager such as the one from Acronis.

Hi Dan,

You need extra software to do it once Windows is installed unless you have
free space available on the drive. If you do, you can use diskmgmt.msc to
create additional partitions and volumes. If not, then you will need a third
party program to dynamically resize the existing partition.

Partitioning programs:

BootIT NG www.terabyteunlimited.com
Partition Magic www.powerquest.com/partitionmagic
Partition Commander http://www.v-com.com/product/pc_ind.html
Ranish Partition Manager http://www.ranish.com/part/

Thanks Rick
I have plenty of room on the hard disk (80GB). It only contains windows
and office. How do I use diskmgmt.msc ?

I suspect he means unpartitioned space where you can create a new partition
(like if you didn't use all available space when creating the original
partition or have a 2nd as yet unpartitioned drive) not just unused space
inside the already created partition.

Unfortunately, no version of Windows or DOS has ever had the ability to
change the partition structure of a drive without losing all the data on it.
To do so requires the use of a third-party program. Partition Magic is the
best-known such program, but there are shareware/freeware alternatives. One
shareware product that gets good reports from several MVPs (although I
haven't used it personally) is Bootit Next Generation.
