Creating El-torito image with two partition from Nero.

It just occurred to me how you can test your image before burning it to CD.

After the FBA.
1. delete EWF partition if you have it with etprep -delete
2. Enable EWF.
3. Delete whole MountedDevices branch.
4. Reboot to XPe again from HDD.

In case that you have configured EWF correctly it will keep your image unchanged, and you will be able to use ewfmgr c: to see if it
is working.
So if your XPe boot and EWF is enabled then you can shutdown device and burn your image to CD.

Hi Slobodan,
Sorry for too much trouble,
here my EWF config
"VolumeID"="{1EA414D1-6760-4625-8CBE-4F9F85A48E15}"
"ArcName"="multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)"
"ClumpSize"=dword:00000200
"Type"=dword:00000001
is there anything wrong?
thanks
Anthony

Anthony,

4 things:

I think maybe your current problem was the booting CD was assigned the
wrong drive letter.

1) Do the "etprep -delete" before starting regedt32
2) In regedt32, be sure to delete the \\DosDevices\C: entry then
rename the \\DosDevices\x: to \\DosDevices\C: where x is the one with
the beginning 45 4c 54 4f
3) Slobodan's suggestion to just delete all the entries should work
too as the booting CD will get drive C assigned to it. Probably the
best approach at least to get you going.
4) You may get this error also if the data you put on the read-only
portion of the boot CD differs from that present on the 1st boot CD.

By the way, I'm only using regedt32 directly because I could never get
"etprep -all" to work correctly.

Anthony,

If this is from your registry then you are missing the entry that tell EWF to be enabled.
Please follow the procedure I described in thread root to the letter, or at least download my ramewf component and read accompanying
doc.
Also do the test I told you last night.

Best regards,
Slobodan

I think maybe your current problem was the booting CD was assigned the
wrong drive letter.

It should not be a problem, unless he choose to ignore me, you and all MS docs.
But since he said: "use regedit to delete all "\\??\volume..." "
If this is only thing he did then you are 100% right about volume letter assignment.
1) Do the "etprep -delete" before starting regedt32
Instead of this step it is safer and better to configure EWF not to use temporary partition from TD.
3) Slobodan's suggestion to just delete all the entries should work
too as the booting CD will get drive C assigned to it. Probably the
best approach at least to get you going.

Deleting all is probably the best approach, unless you want specific HDD volumes to use certain volume letters. But since Torito
disk is independent then this probably in not a case.
4) You may get this error also if the data you put on the read-only
portion of the boot CD differs from that present on the 1st boot CD.
There are no relevance about the data content of first and second CD. First cd can be without any data just partitioned and
formatted.
By the way, I'm only using regedt32 directly because I could never get
"etprep -all" to work correctly.

You can use reg.exe and call in from bat file to save some time.

Hello Slobodan and GregG,
After struggling with Eltorito + Data files, finally I got it works, by
combining all your information + Set "Enhanced Write Filter" under "EWF
partition size in kbytes" I set it to be 50kbytes and it works well
A special thanks to all of you like Slobodan and GregG for all your
help. I really appreciate it.
Best regards,
Anthony

Glad to hear that it work.

One question. What EWF QFE version do you use?
AFAIK with RAM overlay EWF partition size is ignored.

Best regards,
Slobodan

Slobodan,

You're absolutely right that changing the amount of data on the "CD"
portion of the CD (or DVD) has no impact on whether the media is
bootable. I had suspected that eltorito.sys might be sensitive to the
physical position of the MBR in trying to understand why I couldn't
get a bootable CD back when I was first experimenting with the MBR
disk signature. The MBR sector does change with changes to the "CD"
data portion. But there is no effect from adding or dropping files
there. The final media, if prepared correctly, will boot no problem.

Incidentally I have now tested successfully a 2GB boot partition
(protected by EWF) with additional large amount of read-only data.

Good luck Anthony, don't give up. It really does work.
