Creating a popup list in MS Word 2003

M

Maurice

Attempting to configure a popup list as per instructions at:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/word/HA101154401033.aspx

Instruction say:

Show paragraph Icon [Done]

On Formatting toolbar, in the style list, click Normal [See "Format" on the
toolbar, then "Styles & Formatting"…Not Style List... Panel on right
presents "Formatting of selected text where "Normal " is in the top box. Am
I proceeding appropriately?

The instructions say to press "Enter" after each item. Should that be after
the paragraph icon at the end of each item or just the text?

These instructions leave too many variables especially for beginners. If
there is some animated version of this I would appreciate it. Guidance sought

Maurice,
On the formatting toolbar the first button gives you access to the Styles
and formatting task pane. It's the one next to it that you need. Ordinarily
if you start this on a new document the normal style should be present. If
not click on the listarrow next to whichever style is shown and choose
normal.

Now type the list in your document, pressing enter after each item of the
list. Then select the whole list that you have typed. Click on the normal
style (on the name not on the listarrow), it should turn blue, type in the
name of your list and hit enter. Now follow the remaining steps layed out in
the Microsoft article.

If you need additional help, post back.

Much thanks for your timely reply. Pardon my ignorance but I still require
guidance. I followed some of the alternative support [New Style, select
text, Alt F3] which led to a panel " Create AutoText " ... Word wil create
an AutoText entry from the current selection. Please name your Autotext
entry:. The instrutions go on to require that I delete the list of
products, then click on the normal paragraph style.

In my case:

Product 1 P
Product 2 P

where "P" represents the paragraph symbol. am I to highlight and delete the
text alone or include the paragraph icon?

Maurice,
After you have marked the individual items of your list and added them using
the Alt+F3 combination just select the whole list and delete it, paragraph
markers included of course.
Make sure that you are in a paragraph with the normal style active when you
tackle the next items in the procedure.
(Personally I use the Insert menu - Field - AutoTextList and work from there
( but that is just me) - only thing you have to do is fill in the fields in
the dialog and click OK when you are done. I can't help you with the exact
wording as I am using the Dutch version here.)
Good luck
