creating a photo album - converting photos from .tif?

I have PowerPoint 2003 and am making a photo slide show for a memorial
service. I have 400 photos all given to me in tif format - about 2MG per
photo. I want to use Shyam's batch image import, but I can't use tif's, plus
they are just way too big! Does anyone have a suggestion for a way to
convert the photos to smaller jpg's without having to do it one at a time? I
tried using Microsoft's Photo Album tool and was able to create a slide show
but it was almost 800MG and NX Powerlite said it "couldn't compress" in the
format it is in.
Any suggestions?

Hi Jen,

Sorry, but PowerPoint can't do file format conversion. You'll need an image
editing program for that task. Have a look at IrfanView
(http://www.irfanview.com/), it's free and simple and allows batch editing.
Convert your files to a reasonable size (screen or projector resolution,
1024x768 or 800x600 pixel) and a common format like PNG or JPG. Then use MS
Photo Album or Shyam's Batch import to create a presentation quickly. Edit
that presentation to your desire.
