creating a partition

Hi
I have an HP Pavilion PC with a 80GB hard drive.
Everything is working fine but I would like to set up a
partition (drive)of some type that I could share with
other PC in my home and have a certain control on how
much space is used from the other PC on my PC.
Can someone suggest how I could do this?
Note: I don't want to have to start from scratch and have
to reformat my have drive unless I have to. I tried the
option to convert a basic disk to a dynamic disk but that
did not get me anywhere.
