Creating a formula by using data in another file

I have four files for each quarter of the year. I want to add the number
from the first quarter of speadsheets into the next quarter. How do I add
that cell to my formula?
 
with the file open just do what you normally do when you refernce cells
just go
=and then go to the workbook with the cell you want to reference
now they are linked
 
Open both files. In the file where you want the number to appear, in the
CELL where you want it to appear, type an = sign, then use the Window menu to
activate the other file. Navigate to the cell with the value you want and
press the Enter button
