Create time entry greyed out for recurring appointment

We are trying to create time entries for recurring appointments.
Because the duration of the actual time spent per day varies, we are
trying to modify an occurrence and create a time entry. The option is
greyed out and not available. Is this a limitation of recurring
appointments? Is there a way around this?

We have Office 2007 and BCM 2007 and Office Accounting Professional.

Past versions of Outlook did not expose the instances of recurring
appointments to other applications (e.g. BCM), this may still be the
case with Outlook 2007.
