create rules where items change colour regardless of order

the plan is to create a presentation where the mouse can click different
items on the screen which change colour.

for example; 10 transparent squares which when clicked can turn either blue
or white (depending on which colour you want it to turn - this may change
each time the presentation is run), but in no set sequence... ie square three
is clicked and it turns blue, then square two is clicked and it turns white,
then square 7 is clicked turning white.

help would be most appreciated.

powerpoint 2002/2003 onwards have an effect "custom animation" called
"Change fill color"

So you could set each box to change to a pre-determined color.

However, I believe if an opbjects fill is set to "no fill" - then powerpoint
will not let you click it.

If you set the solid fill to a color - but then make it "100% transparent"
using the 'transparency slider' - then powerpoint will let you click it
during a slideshow.

the advice does help, but the presentation doesn't recognise the custome
animation.
i'm not at all familiar with macros, but should i be going down this route:

i need it to say:
clicking this hexagon will turn the box white, clicking twice turns it
blue...

one thing i notice is that by turning the transpaency to 100% means that the
subsequent colour is also 100% transparent

.....
sorry, am i missing something obvious?
