Create E-mail in Word

I run XP SP2, IE7, OE6 and Word 2002.

Because itis not possible to set Word as OE's E-mail editor, I often like to
create an e-mail in Word which is then sent direct from the Word application
by OE. When I open Word I use the "create new email message " option. My
frustration is that this route does not seem to remember font settings etc
and I have to re-set them every time I create an e-mail. Strangely, the
e-mail template also defaults to different font settings from Word's new
document template where default settings can be set via the menu bar.

Grateful please if someone could advise how to get the standard e-mail
template to remember my preferred font settings.
