create dual boot for winxp pro + w2k pro

HI,
I installed w2k pro (in a new 20gig "primary" partitionon) top of
winXP...and then i was only able to start W2k pro. I read somewhere that if
i copy the "ntldr' + "netdetect.com" files from WinXP and paste it into the
w2k pro then i'll be able to see the WinXP in the boot record of w2k Pro and
then be able to aceess it.

However, before copying and pasting the files i just thought that i can
manually add a "windowns 2000 XP professional" option by modifying the w2k
pro "boot.ini". So i did....and when i restarted the computer, i saw and
option like

1. WINDOWS 2000 PROFESSIONAL
2. WINDOWS XP PROFESSIONAL

I choose #2;however, it did not start the WinXP....i guess its caz. i have
not copied the "ntldr" and "netdetect.com" files yet.
Then i restarted the computer and logged into W2k Pro. A day later i
strated my computer and now i only see the following

Windown XP Professional

And if i strat this one i get the following error: <windowns root>
system32\hal.dll file is corrputed, re-install it or repair it
What the hell happened to W2k pro option....????????????????????? that is my
problem.

Can anybody explain me what i might have done wrong + if i can recover w2k
pro from the CD-Rom (explain it plz.)....

- Where exactly was WinXP located? C:\Windows?
- Where exactly did you install Win2000 in?
- What type of file system do you use on each disk?
FAT32? NTFS?
