Improvement suggestion

Rather than having colored flags, which are nice, it would be also nice to
have flags that specify topics or themes related to the e-mail. So, for
instance, I teach at a large university. I'd like to flag some e-mails as
from students in one class; and flag other emails as from students in another
class.

This has an advantage over the folders system because then the contents
aren't all chopped up into categories, and it's just a matter of searching
according to flags.

Also, if possible, it would be nice if Outlook would have a memory so that,
say, the last flag associated with a particular e-mail would always flag that
e-mail as related, say, to the category PHI 104.

if I understand your question correctly, you want to be able to name the
colored quick flags. There is a help article at Microsoft Online that will
tell you exactly how to do that. Search in help for 'Name your colored quick
