Create an association

I'm getting this message ; This file does not have a
program associated with it for performing this action.
Create an association in the folder options panel.
I do not know how.
 
A bit more information would help in being able to answer your question
First what kind of file is it . what is the ending . file type , example a
word document ends in .doc
