Create a shortcut to the desktop folder

D

Donny

I would like to create a shortcut to the desktop folder. It takes way
too long to click on 'My Documents,' and then click on the 'Desktop'
button on the side bar.

When I browse to C:\Documents and Settings\Chris\Desktop, it doesn't
show everything on my desktop. (IE, office programs, programs)

Thanks for the help,
Chris

Shortcut creation to:
%USERPROFILE%\Desktop

Don't forget - everything on your desktop/in your start menu may not be on
*your* start menu/desktop...

%AllUsersProfile%\Desktop is incorporated as well.

Hi Chris,

I don't see a reason why you need a shortcut to access the Desktop folder, as minimizing the open windows should provide access to your own Desktop. Perhaps I'm missing something?

The Desktop is a namespace item which shows files and folders from the user's desktop folder (%userprofile%\desktop), all users desktop folder (%allusersprofile%\desktop) *plus* other namespace icons such as Internet Explorer, My Computer etc.

Would activating the Desktop Toolbar help?
Right click on Taskbar. Slide up to Toolbars. Left click on Desktop.

Ramesh, a shortcut to the desktop "folder" is a quite reasonable
request. I often wish i could simply open the deskop "folder" from my
quick launch bar.

A need exists for a method to view the "desktop" folder while bypassing
the mass-minimizing of all windows/programs. I often mutitask
extensively, and routinely have multiple windows open and layered in a
specific manner. I am fully aware that clicking the "desktop" quick
launch button minimizes & RESTORES the windows as they were originally,
but this is an un-necessarily complicated method of opening/viewing the
desktop contents. The simple fact that the desktop "folder" is
considered the top of the windows directory tree, and *can be viewed as
a folder in an explorer window *legitimizes the need for a shortcut to
view it as such.

Anyone have any suggestions?

The following created a folder icon in Quick Launch that opens the Desktop
Folder on my computer:
1) Navigated to C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop
2) Created a shortcut to Desktop in C:\Documents and
Settings\Owner\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

Best of luck!
