create a link from one area in a doc & link to another

I need to create a link from one phrase in a Word doc and make it link up to
another part of the doc. Need to be able to click a phrase in a table of
contents and have link a user to the part of the document that corresponds to
that particular phrase in the the table of contents.

A table of contents is built from the headings in the document and/or
TC fields that you insert in the document (see
http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/toc/CreateATOC.html and
http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/TOCTips.htm). The entries in the
table of contents are hyperlinked to the headings and fields by
default.

If that isn't what you had in mind, you can insert hyperlinks (yes,
with Insert > Hyperlink) to any heading or bookmark, by clicking the
"Place in this document" button on the left side of the Hyperlink
dialog.
