Crazy login problem

Win2k Pro sp4, all patches.....machine boots....comes to
login screen....enter password....Windows "says"
Applying personal settings, saving personal settings, and
back to the 'press ctrl-alt-del to login'.... over and
over....tried safe mode.....same thing....tried blank
password, and it says that's incorrect...so it recognizes
the password, tried repair....still same thing....any
ideas??????

I am having the exact same problem on win2k server. I
noticed some lbd###.tmp files in c:\winnt\temp that it
would not let me delete.. I had done a virus scan via
housecall.trendmicro.com before I rebooted and it did not
find anything. Please let me know if you are to solve
this. I'll do the same. I had noticed elsewhere that
there was a virus that caused this but i did not notice
any virus in this case.
