Crashing Games

N

Neil

Hello
It seems this is a repeated problem in this newsgroup but
the advice given to others hasnt helped so here is my
problem...
The game Black Hawk Down crashes. 5 minutes into playing
the screen starts to go black and flicker. It is sort of
like a ghosted image of itself. Then the screen goes
black but the game is still playing, after about 30
seconds i get the reboot. I went to the settings and
changed the crash button so that is shouldnt reboot but
it still does. I updated every driver i had and still the
problem. When i first bought the game i played it for
three nights without problem. I didnt install or change
any settings to the computer at all, it was the same set
up as when i could play it.
Looking through this newsgroup i learnt about the event
viewer and it seemed the True Vector Engine was a bit of
a problem. Did a little snoopng and uninstalled my zone
alarm. Still crashes. So yesterday I reformatted the
machine. After installing all components i installed the
game (no zone alarm installed no nothing installed) and
five minutes in it crashed. I had turned off the reboot
facility but it still rebooted. And there is no error
message in the event viewer. It seems it wont acknowledge
the error at all.
The problem is starting to happen elsewhere too.
Battlefield 1942 i have played for about 200 hours
without problem on the last level the other day the same
thing happened. I replayed the level and the same thing
happens each time. I have played online since then with
no problem and have restarted the game from the first
level and so far two levels in no crashes. The crash
seemes specific to the last level only. (Black Hawk Down
is any level).
Neverwinter nights - again a few hundred hours of play, i
played online for the first time the other week, two
hours fine, the next day 5 minutes and crash.
I go on a bit because the crashes in the last two games
were similar in style to the Black Hawk Down problem.
Specs:
AMD Athlon xp2100+ 1.7ghz
512RAM
NVIDIA GEForce Ti 4600
Creative SB Audigy 5.1 thingy
Latest Direct X drivers.

Can anyone help at all please?

Thanks
Neil
