Hi,
I have been using Vista for about 4 months on a new machine.
Recently, occasionally when I am away from the computer (but it is
running an important application) it is restarting. It is not due to
Windows Upgrade as I have it set to not update without my permission.
I assume some type of crash has occured and the computer is restarting
afterwards. Is there a log somewhere that I can look at to see what
the problem was so I can try to resolve the underlying issue?

Thanks,
Bob

are you sure its restarting with vista when you leave it for a while it goes
into standby mode to save power. so when the computer is turned bak on it
will be on the welcome screen.

Hello Bob,

First of all you should go into System Properties, Advanced, under Startup
and Recovery, Settings, uncheck Automatically Restart on system failure.
This will enable you to see any BSOD error codes.

Are there any relevant entries in Event Viewer?

I am sure it is not the standby mode because when I come back to the
computer it is on at the login screen, not off in standby mode. Also,
it is a desktop, not a laptop. What should I be looking for in event
viewer? It doesn't show any "critical" events in the last week.

Thanks,
Bob
