Your bearings going out. A new fan costs very little and takes all of 5
minutes to install.

OMG don't unplug ur Fan inless you like the smell of Lead
and burning and a non working computer. how fast is your
processor? and is it a custom built computer or from a
company from like dell? you can always by a new fan also
not hard to back up files easyest way is install both hard
drives and send data over to the new hard drive

If your hard drive contains the operating system you will find
that a number of files will be locked and will not copy.
Consequently the new HD would not boot.

There are various commercial programs that you could use for this
purpose. I haven't used them myself so cannot recommend which
might be best.

Alternatively you could also try xxclone (www.xxclone.com) to
copy the OS volume. This is still beta but has been under
development for quite some time. It will work in any normal
situation. Install the new drive - clone the OS onto the new
drive - unplug the old drive and try booting from the new one.
The worst that could happen is that the new drive won't boot -
you could always delete everything from it and start again. If
you have more than one volume on the old hard drive you could
then reconnect both drives and copy data from the other
volume(s).

PS It is good practice always to have a backup of your data -
before you suspect potential hardware failure.
