CPU Fan Failure.... PC shutting down ... and then it does...

I am building a system ...on powerup I get CPU Fan Failure.... PC
shutting down ... and then it does...

Details:

Motherboard: Asus A8N-LA (Nagami) ... a compac left over from
computer geeks.

Processor : Althlon 64 3700+ (2.2GHz) 939

Two matched set of 512 ram for a total of 2GB

On bootup I get the compac splash screen

Will not load the bios ... then after a short time I get ..CPU Fan
Failure.... PC shutting down

Well the fan is running.... and here id the kicker... I changed the
fan (both amd cpu fans... and I still have the same problem

I reseated the CPU ... and I am using artic silver 5

So .... all I can think of is that it is the motherboard or the
processor.... and I do not have spares of those.

Any ideas of where I go from here would be very helpful... to say the
least.

Thanks

David

Maybe it's simply the CPU fan sensor that's bad. Go into the BIOS and see
if there's a setting for an alarm or shutdown on fan failure. if there is,
disable it.

You've got the cpu fan powered by the wrong header??? Supposed to be
connected to the one that says "CPU FAN"--NOT one merely labelled "FAN".

Iwill not load the B IOS ... I am going to change out the keyboard
today,

Right on ...Bingo.... the fan header was it... on this board it is
the one further from the cpu!

Thanks
