CP reporting wrong size of hard drive contents

I have a WD 250GB HD that XP Pro SP1 is reporting as
232GB (which is fine), 137GB used and 95GB free. However,
there is only 30GB worth of data on the drive and only
one NTFS partition. I've looked into MSKB 303013, checked
atapi.sys drivers and registry values. All are on par
with what's listed, yet it still reports the same values.
Is there any way to correct this without reformatting and
reinstalling everything?

Thanks,
Patrick

Give SequoiaView a try.

It gives a quick graphical representation of which files are taking up how
much room where on a HDD. Very useful for clearing up these mysteries.

Freeware.

What a cool little utility! It shows C:\pagefile.sys, a
768MB file, in a directory that's 138GB. All the other
data (the 30GB worth of apps and stuff) appears in
separate directories under C:\. Again, is there any way
to salvage this, and if so, how? Thanks for the help so
far.

What directory does it show it in? Do you have any software like Norton
Undelete? It can protect the recycle bin so that when you think you've
deleted files, they're really still there. Make sure to set the view in
Tools, Folder Options to show hidden files and uncheck the box for protected
operating system files, and the other stuff in that should be viewable in
Explorer.
